Take a Note

Monday, June 2nd, 2014

I needed to jot something down today so I opened up the notes app in my IPhone.

I jotted down my note and then thumbed down and glanced at the other notes I’ve taken.  Have you done this recently?

image(11)

What?  The only one of these that even looks like something I recognize is the Sequin Pinot Grigio…a delicious wine if you are looking for one:)  Like a duck…7, 14 15 reindeer…Diablo Nemesis…358?  What?

I have pages of these.

I’ve got just number ones too…

image(10)

No idea what these numbers mean.  I’m gonna guess they are yarn color numbers?

I asked around and Carly and Jen had random notes too.

One page of Carly’s…

Some are really fun important notes.   Carly taught a kids knit class and noted a funny thing one of the kiddos said.

She had a random number one too.  Your guess is as good as hers.

As useless as these notes are, I can’t bring myself to delete them yet.  Maybe one day I will be asked a question and I will say “Eureka!  That answer is 7, 14 15 reindeer!

Trim the Tree Party

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

Remember our awesome tree?  A lovely gift for my awesome friends.
.

Ragged Tree

.
Well, it’s looking kind of tired now.   Lot’s of things are looking tired in this gloomy weather.
.

Tired Tree

.
Anyway, we are planning on trimming the tree for the holidays and we want you to join us.
.
Friday, November 16th from 4-8 we’ll be decking the tree.

All we ask of you is to be here with your knitting or crochet fingers ready.  We’ll provide the yarn, needles, hooks and warm beverages.
.

If you can’t make the party and feel so inclined…we’re looking for some hand knitting.  Green, White, Red; you know…holiday colors.  Feel free to make some pom poms (we hang them from the branches), squares, rectangles…whatever you can whip up. Double up the yarn and knit or crochet with monster needles.  We’ll figure out how to connect them all and get them on our happy tree.  Whip this stuff up fast people, we’re not going to be checking gauge:)  Add some sparkles or fun fur if you’ve got it and you so choose.   We’re going to be adding lights to the tree too, so we’re looking for festive!
.
Drop it off sometime between now and that Friday and we’ll include it on the tree!
.
Let’s deck the tree!

Summer Tuesday Fun

Friday, August 5th, 2011

.
We have an event downtown Stillwater every summer called Summer Tuesdays.  It is a fun, local, family event that residents really look forward to.  We have a market featuring local shops and restaurants and independent merchants selling all sorts of goodies.  There is live music and at dusk a movie on the big screen!
.
We decided last week to bring our good friend and artist Robbin Firth.  She makes amazing needle and nuno felt scarves and is starting to do this crazy fun instant set silk scarf dyeing too!  We brought all our instant set dyes and silk scarf blanks and residents created some masterpieces!

July Done

Pretty, pretty

Broken Rib Back

Broken Rib Back

Well...almost done

It’s done!  Yipee!
.
Well, almost done, just 2 little ends to finish weaving in.  I ended up doing the back in broken rib instead of the cables.  I needed a mindless knit while waiting for Maggie, my 7 year old, to get an x ray on her arm.  Broken.  Bummer.
.

Broken Arm. Bummer

The cables were just too much for my guilty mommy brain to handle.  I waited 3 days to take her in to get the x ray.  I was sure it wasn’t THAT bad.  I mean she could move all her fingers and everything.  Oh well.  Chalk that one up to a learning experience.
.
Maggie is happy now, she is at Girl Scout Camp this week at Lakamaga.

I am happy now, because I get to knit plain old stockinette for August!

Beginning Lace Shawl

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Springtime Bandit

Tuesdays, June 14th, 21st 6-8pm OR
Fridays, June 17th and 24th 10am – noon

.

If you have been afraid of lace knitting and chart reading, this is the class for you. We’ll be making the Springtime Bandit Scarf. In this beginning lace class you’ll get a better feel for lace comprehension; increasing, decreasing, understanding a chart and following the symbols within. The pattern is a free download from The Fibre Company. You’ll need to download it and print before the first class. Don’t let that stop you. Come on into the shop and we can help you figure that out!

Materials: 300 – 400 yards of worsted yarn and 32″ US9 needle. Make sure you choose a yarn that you would LOVE to put around your neck! We recommend The Fibre Company Terra, a merino, alpaca, silk blend. You’ll need 4 skeins of it. We have lots of pretty summery colors here at the shop.

Instructor: Aimee

Skills: We welcome beginners, however you must be very comfortable knitting and purling!

7 days in and I am doing everything I can to avoid knitting March’s sweater.
.
Not sure why…
.
I really, really like the sweater.  Just am not excited to knit it.
.
Instead of knitting…I am…

Eating girl scout cookies

reading the new vogue..cause if you know me you know I am a slave to fashion

picking up little bits of legos and bakugans, cause that's what moms of 6 year old boys do

waking up at the crack o dawn to go to beach body bootcamp this morning...WHY...cause who would want to stay in a nice warm bed past 5am anyway?

.

I am 6 inches into the sweater.  At this rate, it’ll take me 8 weeks to finish…Just about the time when my beach body will be complete:)  And yeah, I know that girl scout cookies and a beach body aren’t exactly a perfect pair.
.

1 week down...6" down

I hope you are finding more motivation than I am!

She came, she saw, she left stuff!

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Our friend Sharon from Three Irish Girls was in the shop on Saturday afternoon for a lovely, lively workshop.  She talked about lots of stuff, mostly how the heck to make the beautiful yarn we buy work for the projects we want!  Fun was had by all!
.
If you couldn’t make it, never fear…we have tons of yarn left.  Sharon left it all for us!
.
We also have a bunch of copies of all of her patterns in the house.

Wanna hear something funny?
.
So, you know from the previous posts that I have ripped this sweater back once because I only cast on 5 stitches under the arm and the pattern said I should have done 10.  Well, I knit the 10 cast on under the arms and I knit exact to the pattern.  I am knitting a size 38.  Well, I got done with the decreases and thought I would try it on for size.  I pulled off the needles and put the stitches on some waste yarn so I could fit the thing over my head.

January in progress

January in progress

.

I was very much hoping for a fitted sweater and this was too big, so I decided to decrease a bit more at the waist before increasing again.  I decreased another 8 stitches over 6 rows.  Then I increased as noted but less the 8 stitches.  I bound off and put the thing on…ready?

.

a big bumpy...the sweater not the girl

Not so hot huh?  Forgive the low cut neckline, remember I am putting a pretty lace weight panel in there.  But because I decided to decrease more at the waist, the sweater is too bulky at the top and it is rippling.

.

Wanna know what is so funny?  If I had kept the underarm stitches to 5.  Woulda been perfect.  Yep, shoulda kept the darn 5 stitches and kept on knitting. Argh!

.

So, I have decided to cast on the lace and knit that panel, then see how much time remains in my month.  I knit for an hour today and only got 1″ of lace knit.  I have to knit 32 inches I think…If I can get this lace panel knit in a week, I’ll still have 2 weeks to reknit the sweater body in a size 36 and do the arms?  Might be pushing it.  We’ll have to see…

.

Lace weight panel begins

gotta go knit now.
