Hello, My Name is Aimee…

Monday, July 9th, 2012

.
They say the first step in changing is admitting that you have a problem.
.
Hello, my name is Aimee and I am addicted to Hay Day on my ipad.
.

Hay Day

.
I can’t stop playing it.
.
I wasn’t ever going to be one of “those” people.  You know who they are.  They play farmville, castleville and other “ville” games on Facebook.  They are always posting that they made it to this level or that level or that they need a upgraded gem or rock or something.  Those people who seemingly have nothing better to do than play games on devices.  I’ll admit it.  I judged.
.
Well, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
.
I am bracing to be judged.
.
I can not stop playing Hay Day.
.
If you don’t know the basics, let me fill you in.  There is no skill involved in this game.  You simply plant crops, harvest crops, sell crops and buy crops to keep your animals alive and to fill orders for your farm.  You get coins and gems and get to build on to your farm as you increase levels.  .
.
I know, I know…you think it sounds stupid.  Remember, I was you only 5 short days ago.
.
I want more fields, more crops, more animals.  At level 16 (only 420 more stars) I get to buy sheep.  SHEEP!  Then I can sheer them.   SHEER THEM!
.
My husband told me this morning that Max (my 7 year old son) used my last pumpkins.  “WHAT? No one EVER sells pumpkins and even IF I could find them to buy IT TAKES 3 HOURS TO GROW PUMPKINS”.   I’ll admit it.  It wasn’t my finest hour.  I did question my reaction as being a bit too extreme.  But man I want these things…
.
I want these things so badly that I almost linked my account to Facebook.  Gasp.  I was one finger touch away from letting everyone in on my little secret.  It would have been so easy.  If my friends on Facebook are also playing Hay Day maybe I could get more stuff faster?  We could team up?   But I stopped myself.  I just couldn’t do it.
.
I have been knitting too.
.
I did finish June…

.
I am not totally absorbed by Hay Day, right…right?
.
Ummm, I have to go now, my eggs are ready.

 .
psst…if you are playing Hay Day too, feel free to let me know.  Maybe we could be farm friends and keep it on the down low:)  Don’t tell anyone:)

I am clicking right along with the June sweater.  I was feeling some serious sweater exhaustion and then I started this one.  Happy again!

Stitch Yourself

Monday, July 5th, 2010

We are so grateful for the excitement and support you have given to us this past year that we would like to celebrate YOU!   We’ve decided that in addition to the open house we have planned for the weekend of September 18th (more details to follow)  we would like to a special knit/crochet/sew along!  Read on for the fun details…
.

If I lived in London, these would be my people.

Stitch London

.
Stitch London (formerly Stitch and Bitch London) is a knitting group that holds court every single week at a different venue in central London.   They are the lifeblood of London knitting and I would join them weekly if I had enough frequent flier miles.
.

Anyway, they have teamed up with London’s Science Museum to create a Stitch Yourself exhibit.  They asked people to contribute a tiny Stitched Self to the installation.  They asked people to think outside the knitting box to create a representation of themselves.  Some were knit, some were crocheted and some were sewn.   They got 259 Stitched Selves in response to their request.

Here is a link to the patterns on the Stitch London website.  There is a flikr page dedicated to the Stitch Yourself project as well.
.

We would love to do our own version of this Stitch Yourself event.  Wouldn’t it be great to do an exhibition of our own?  A celebration of our customers?  We think it would be so cool to display these Stitched Selves at our open house.  Why not?
.
So, you need to head to the Stitch London sight (or ravelry) and get your body blank patterns.  You can knit, crochet or sew them…so there are no excuses!  You are not limited to these patterns though, this is just a starting point.  There are 2 rules..your Stitched Self must be no taller than 6″ and it must get to our shop before September 13th.  So we can get them party ready.
.
Stay tuned to our facebook page and website for more information about the big open house weekend, September 17th – 19th.  You really are going to want to be here.
.
Email us if you have any questions about this crazy idea! We look forward to seeing how you represent yourself!
.

You can mail us your Stitched Self to

Darn Knit Anyway
423 South Main Street
Stillwater, MN 55082
.

We promise we’ll take good care of them and you can come and get them after the event!
.

Also, we plan on doing a few Stitch Yourselves workshops in the shop in the coming months…you can use a bunch of our scraps of yarn and fabric and we can have a drink and a laugh.  Watch our newsletter and facebook for details.  We can’t wait to see what you come up with.We .

Darn Knit Anyway is giddy.
.
We get to welcome Sharon from Three Irish Girls for a workshop.
.

The class is from 10-1, on July 17th.   She’ll talk all about knitting with hand dyed yarns.  Do you like the pooling, hate the pooling…she’ll explain it all to you.  We’ll have time for practice, questions, and perusing the special yarns she is planning to bring with her.  This class is for knitters of all levels, from beginner to advanced.   All you need to bring is a pair of size 7 needles, cause you’re gonna want  to swatch these yarns.
.
Call us 651-342-1386 or email us aimee@darnknitanyway.com to register.  Space is limited, so call your friends and made a day of it in Stillwater.
.
Here is the event flyer…I think you should print it and hang it on your fridge.

Summer Break Begins

Monday, June 7th, 2010

My kids started Summer break this week.  They are only 5 and 6, so summer break doesn’t mean a whole lot to them.  They’ll go to summer school everyday and we have a great high school babysitter that will pick them up and bring them home for an afternoon of play with the neighbor kids.  It’s a good life they lead really.

.

The only problem is that the sitter doesn’t start until next week.  Boo.  So…the kids hung out at the shop with me this afternoon.  My kids love the shop in small doses…a whole afternoon is way too long.   Let’s see…what did we do?

.

We messed with displays

We ate snacks on the patio

We colored at the counter

We watched Alvin and the Chipmunks on the big wall

We played in the grass next to the road. I watched from the window...they were safe:)

They walked down the sidewalk to see if the snow cone lady was there...she wasn't

Their Dad has them for the evening.  All in all a good day, although I think I’ll pawn them off on an unsuspecting neighbor tomorrow…don’t tell anyone.

Naughty Knit Night…for adult eyes only!

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Well, we had a fun day today at Darn Knit Anyway…the day started with an appearance on a local tv station’s morning show (FOX 9 News) .  The very fun M A Rosko asked us to tag along to one of her live spots at Sweet Chocolat today in Roseville.  It was quite an experience! Thanks to Amy B, Krishell, Emily (who is a photographer and didn’t bring her camera…BAH!) and Katy for tagging along and sharing the experience…and getting a lot of samples of chocolate.

We ended the day with a room full of Naughty Knitters!  Here are a couple of pictures from the fun night!  Stay tuned for our next Naughty Knit Night!
