February 2017 Makers’ League

Wednesday, February 1st, 2017

February 2017 Maker’s League is a fun project called Wanderers: Modern Mukluks, by Andrea Mowry.

These fun house slippers are an easy 2 color project! We’ve kit them up with a brand new yarn from Berroco, Ultra Wool. This new yarn is a worsted 100% superwash wool. We are loving how it knits up and washes up!

Our kits are cream and an accent color. There are 18 accent colors to pick from. You are sure to find one you love.

Trust us, you can make these!

Knit in Public Day 2015

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015

Join us Saturday, June 13th for World Wide Knit in Public Day!

We’ll be knitting in public!

wWKIP

Truth be told, we knit in public a lot, but this time we hope you’ll join us.

We’ll be crafting on the patio in front of the shop in celebration of World Wide Knit in Public Day.  It’s actually a week long celebration of fiber artists and it takes place at different times all around the world.

We’re planning to sit in lawn chairs on our patio on Saturday, June 13th from 10am – 5pm.

Bring a lawn chair, some snacks for yourself and your favorite beverage and we’ll wave at all the poor souls sitting in traffic!

We’ll have a few canopies set up to protect us from the sun or rain.  So we’ll be knitting out rain or shine.

Bring your knitting, crochet, needlepoint, spinning, felting, weaving…whatever kind of fiber project you have going on.

We hope to see you!  Come early, because you know how Stillwater traffic can be on a beautiful summer Saturday!

Around Town

There is nothing like Stillwater, MN in the summer.

Thought I’d share a few images of why we love this town so much and can’t imagine our yarn shop anywhere else.

Take a Note

Monday, June 2nd, 2014

I needed to jot something down today so I opened up the notes app in my IPhone.

I jotted down my note and then thumbed down and glanced at the other notes I’ve taken.  Have you done this recently?

image(11)

What?  The only one of these that even looks like something I recognize is the Sequin Pinot Grigio…a delicious wine if you are looking for one:)  Like a duck…7, 14 15 reindeer…Diablo Nemesis…358?  What?

I have pages of these.

I’ve got just number ones too…

image(10)

No idea what these numbers mean.  I’m gonna guess they are yarn color numbers?

I asked around and Carly and Jen had random notes too.

One page of Carly’s…

Some are really fun important notes.   Carly taught a kids knit class and noted a funny thing one of the kiddos said.

image(8)

She had a random number one too.  Your guess is as good as hers.

As useless as these notes are, I can’t bring myself to delete them yet.  Maybe one day I will be asked a question and I will say “Eureka!  That answer is 7, 14 15 reindeer!

Different Stripes

Sunday, April 13th, 2014

Our shop hop pattern for 2014 is Different Stripes for Different Types.
.
Our theme for this year’s hop was the Historic Stillwater Prison.  Stillwater was the location of Minnesota’s very first federal prison.  It housed members of Jessie James Gang and other bad folks:).  Even some women were housed there.
.
Anyway…we knew we wanted to do the obvious, and stripe something.  But weren’t exactly sure what to do.
.
We wanted something very easy to knit and crochet, something that even newbie knitters could make.  We chose a simple triangular shawl with an increase only on one side.  What we hate about triangular shawls is that they aren’t easy to wear.  If they aren’t long enough to tie around your neck securely, you have to use a shawl pin or else the points are always falling off your shoulders.  We hate that!  So, to make it easier to wear, we added a keyhole!
.
One skein of our yarn (Sweet Georgia, Cashluxe Fine color Prison Grey) is the perfect amount to make this perfect scarf, shawl, neckerchief…whatever!  We added the stripes by making roughly 42 yard mini skeins of some of Sweet Georgia’s standard colors.  Pink = Orchic, Orange = Dutch, White = Birch, Yellow = Saffron, Blue = Summer Skin, Green = Lawn.
.
So now…where to put the stripes?  We decided to write a little quiz.  We’ve all taken them.  Work the quiz, add up your score and use our suggested stripe patterns, or just stripe it wherever you wish!
.
Find the pattern here on Ravelry, you can keep a copy in your Rav library. Or download from our website directly by clicking this link.  Different Stripes Pattern

Hope you enjoy!

Oh and we have a crochet version too:)

Paint on the Water

Saturday, September 8th, 2012

Stopped by a cool event this morning in Stillwater.  Paint on the Water.
.
In addition to these artists from all over the country (who by the way are just starting these masterpieces).  There will be break dancing competitions, singers and MCs.  It’s all family friendly.  Bring the kids and enjoy a beautiful day in Stillwater.
.
.
The event is on the North side of town up in Pioneer Park.  If I were you and I were coming into town…I would come in down Myrtle, turn north on 2nd and park in the parking ramp.  You can grab a bite to eat on Main Street, hit our shop and other fun shops and then cruise up to the event.
