We are going to be participating in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Holiday Giving.

Things are a little different this time around.  Instead of felt bags, we’ll be making cowls to donate to the deserving moms of Ronald McDonald Houses.

If you buy our suggested yarn at the shop for the cowl, make the cowl and return the cowl to us by December 1st you’ll get $5 in DKA dollars to spend at the shop however you want.  You get to make a donation to a very deserving cause AND you get a little DKA cash:) You only get the $5 gift if you have purchased yarn at the shop specifically for this project.

To make things easy we have selected 2 different projects for you to choose from for donations this year.

Kinetic Cowl

Knit the Kinetic Cowl. One of our most popular DKA patterns. Knit on a US15 circular needle it has knits and purls and yarn overs.  What could be better!

You can knit it out of Berroco Brio or Misti Alpaca Chunky Handpaint.

Gaptastic Cowl

Or…knit the Gaptastic Cowl.  The most popular cowl on Ravelry.  Again, just knits and purls:)
You can choose to knit it out of James Brett Marble Chunky or Classic Elite Chateau or Chalet.

We didn’t forget the crocheters…Carly is working on a sample cowl for you as we speak!  We’ll update this blog when we have it done:)

Ronald McDonald and your DKA crew thank you:)

Bags for Ronald McDonald House

Calling all knitters, or crocheters!

Ronald McDonald House Charity needs our help.   I’m sure you are familiar with the great work that the Ronald McDonald House does providing housing for families who are going through a medical crisis with their children.  They have 3 separate facilities that at any given night can house 67 families.  Many of those families stay for months at a time, some even stay for years while their children are receiving treatment.

Every year around the holidays, they do a fun activity called “12 Days of Sharing”.  For the 12 days leading up to Christmas, they surprise families with small gifts in their room.  This year they are asking for 50 felt bags for one of the surprise gifts for the moms!

They’ve asked for our help to make them, and we are asking you!

Here is our proposal.  You come to the shop and buy yarn for a felted bag.  Go home, knit and felt it.  Then come back to the shop with the finished bag and we’ll give you a $10 gift card to Darn Knit Anyway!  You get to make a donation to this great cause and you get $10 to spend at your favorite LYS!  It’s a win-win!

There is no specific bag requirement.  Any felted bag is fine.  Our requirements are only that the bags are handmade, felted and brand spanking new.  Remember, these are extra special moms, so they need extra special bags!

They have asked for 50 of them and they want them by December 1st.  (Deadline extended to December 11th)  Let’s not let them down!

Do you knit?  How about this one, Angela’s Fabulous Felted Bag ,or this one…Booga Bag

Do you crochet?  How about this one…Felted Purse, or this one College Tote.
