Counting Sheep

Who can resist a flock of fluffy sheep? Knit this charming colorwork hat while building confidence with stranded knitting techniques you'll use again and again.

In class, you'll learn how to maintain smooth, even colorwork tension, catch floats comfortably (including the often-tricky right-hand float), and create a polished stranded fabric. Add your own finishing touches with optional corrugated ribbing and top it off with a fluffy pom pom or tassel.

Whether you're fairly new to colorwork knitting or you're looking to refine your technique, you'll leave with an adorable winter hat and the confidence to tackle future stranded knitting projects.

Class: Counting Sheep
Skills Required: Confident knitting in the round and using Magic Loop or DPN technique for top-of-hat decreases; comfortable with colorwork knitting.
You will learn: Corrugated ribbing (optional); how to catch long floats; and tips for consistent, even tension.

Supplies needed: 

• Ovis Hat pattern by Caitlin Hunter (available on Ravelry or purchase through DKA)
• Two contrasting colors of DK weight yarn - 110-130 yards of main color; 80-100 yards of contrast color.
• US 5 and US 7 needles (16" circular) and US 7 32" circular or DPNs for top-of-hat decreasing (or sizes needed to obtain ideal fabric and/or gauge.
• Stitch markers, tapestry needle, row counter or chart reader.

Students are given a 10% discount for supplies needed for class and any purchases at the shop during class days, excluding sale items, gift cards, classes, and events.

Register early. Classes with fewer than three students will be canceled 72 hours before the start date, and Participants will receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued for registration canceled 72 hours before class.
