4 in 12 KAL - Garden Cardigan

We are excited to announce the 3rd sweater in our 4-in-12 KAL series!

The Garden Cardigan by Ankestrick is a favorite of the staff in our shop. It's an easy to wear, open cardigan that can be dressed up or down. It's that sweater you will reach for again and again. Not in the mood for a cardigan? There is also the Garden Pullover that features the same basic construction and includes long sleeve or vest. We welcome you to knit either design.

The Garden Cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down. You start working the back for the length of the armhole, then pick up for the front and work both fronts symetrically for the length of the armhole. After that, you join back and fronts to work the body down to the bottom ribbing. Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round.

The Garden Cardigan (or pullover) has a unique construction that may be new to you, but the pattern is clearly written and is achievable for knitters at a variety of levels. If you are trying to decide whether this project meets your skill level, you should be comfortable with:
- knitting and purling flat and in the round.
- making German Short Row double stitches and resolving them knit-wise and purl-wise.
- increasing and decreasing stitches: k2tog, ssk.
- working basic lace stitches: YO, psso.

Both the cardigan and pullover are knit at a DK guage of 19 stitches to four inches. You can knit with two strands of fingering/lace weight together, a fingering weight with a mohair or Suri held together for a fuzzy halo, or a DK weight yarn.

New to 4 in 12? It's a free quarterly knit-a-long that meets every other week on zoom in the morning and the evening. On the opposite Wednesdays, an in-person study hall meets in the mornings at the Makers Lounge. We knit 4 projects in 12 months!

This is a knit along, not a traditional "class". You won't get specific instruction from us as you are knitting. We all knit this sweater together, but at our own pace, and discover the 'quirks' of the pattern together. We will do our best to answer questions when they come up, but this is not a formal class. We look forward to knitting along with you!

During Zoom sessions, extensive demonstrations may be limited. We do our best to answer as many questions as we can and help as many people as possible! If you are wanting some one-on-one help, we recommend attending the Study Hall In-Person classes on the opposite Wednesdays as the Zooms. If you are unable to attend Study Hall, we ask that you call and make an appointment so we can assure that one of our staff is available to assist you.
You may or may not have experience with some of these techniques, and we anticipate that everyone will be at different learning stages throughout this knit-a-long.
