We are so excited to have Jillian Moreno teaching at Spin Camp 2026! But Jillian is more than just a spinner, she is The Yarn Detective. She knows yarn and loves to help makers get the right yarn for their projects.
In this evening event designed for yarn lovers, you will meet Jillian and hear her talk on Decoding Your Yarn for Better Knitting. There will be time for questions, chatting, and book signing too!
Ticket price includes entrance to the event, desserts and sweet treats, coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages. There will also be a cash bar on site.
Yarn Detective: Decoding Your Yarn for Better Knitting
What do you really know about the yarn you’re knitting with? A little inside information can make you a better knitter, give you more consistent outcomes, and grants you insight when you’re making substitutions. In this talk, based on her popular column with Modern Daily Knitting, Jillian will provide expert guidance as you uncover the secrets of how yarn is made and how this affects your knitting. You’ll learn about different sheep breeds, what ply has to do with stitch definition, and the difference between woolen- and worsted-spun yarns. If you’ve ever been disappointed in your knitting, the problem might lie in your yarn choice, not in your skill level. This talk will add to your knitting knowledge and give you the confidence you need to make great yarn choices going forward!
Jillian Moreno is the author of the best-selling book Yarnitecture: A Knitter’s Guide to Spinning: Building Exactly the Yarn You Want. She is passionate about investigating the structure of yarn and color, and using them in intentional ways in knitting, stitching, and weaving. She explores, questions, and plays with fiber and wants to take as many people as possible along for the ride.
