My First Sweater
Ready to knit your very first sweater? The Flax Pullover by Tin Can Knits is the perfect place to start! In the first session, you’ll learn the essentials of creating a well-fitting sweater: swatching, gauge, sizing, and ease. You’ll knit a gauge swatch in the round and learn how to interpret your results to choose the perfect size.
In the following four sessions, we’ll dive deep into every step of knitting a top-down raglan sweater—from shaping and dividing for body and sleeves to picking up stitches and finishing techniques. By the end of the class, you’ll not only have a stylish new sweater but also the skills and confidence to tackle future sweater projects.
Class: My First Sweater
Skills required: Very comfortable casting on, knitting, purling, and knitting in the round. Some experience reading a simple project pattern is helpful, but not required.
You will learn: Swatching, reading gauge, sizing and ease, Increasing (M1 and TFB), decreasing, backward loop cast on, picking up stitches, German Short Row technique, dividing for sleeves/body, finishing techniques
