Shop Hop Donations Begin

Wednesday, March 15th, 2017

Starting today we have MN Yarn Shop Hop EZ and VIP passes available with donations.

What do the passes get ya?

Well, in addition to the great feel goodness of making a donation to a local food shelf, you’ll get some other cool things too.

The EZ pass is a $50 donation. You’ll get to take home this year’s canvas tote bag and you’ll be guaranteed the collectible pin from each shop you visit. You’ll get the tote bag the day you donate, so you won’t have to worry that we’ll run out.

The VIP pass is a $100 donation. You’ll get the tote bag and the collectible pin for each store you visit as well as a 20% off coupon good for whatever you purchase at one of the participating shops. You’ll also be entered into a drawing to win the custom dyed shop hop yarn. We are drawing 2 names, so you will split the 14 skeins with another lucky winner. That means you go home with 7 of the custom yarns!

We love the shop hop. It’s so much fun to see all of you!

Can’t make it into the shop to get your pass, just call us or drop us an email. We can take payment over the phone or you can mail in a check. We’ll have your bag and passport waiting for you!

And of course we welcome you to Give as you Go too!

See you at the hop!

Wow!  What a weekend!

All we can say is thank you.

Thank you for all of your donations to our food shelf, Valley Outreach.  You raised $2,335.00 and 140 pounds of food!  Wow.

Total dollars donated to food banks around the twin cities was over $37,000! Fiber junkies are a generous lot. I speak for all the yarn store owners when I say thank you!

Thank you for playing along by putting our silly temporary tattoos in funny places:)

Different Stripes

Sunday, April 13th, 2014

Our shop hop pattern for 2014 is Different Stripes for Different Types.
.
Our theme for this year’s hop was the Historic Stillwater Prison.  Stillwater was the location of Minnesota’s very first federal prison.  It housed members of Jessie James Gang and other bad folks:).  Even some women were housed there.
.
Anyway…we knew we wanted to do the obvious, and stripe something.  But weren’t exactly sure what to do.
.
We wanted something very easy to knit and crochet, something that even newbie knitters could make.  We chose a simple triangular shawl with an increase only on one side.  What we hate about triangular shawls is that they aren’t easy to wear.  If they aren’t long enough to tie around your neck securely, you have to use a shawl pin or else the points are always falling off your shoulders.  We hate that!  So, to make it easier to wear, we added a keyhole!
.
One skein of our yarn (Sweet Georgia, Cashluxe Fine color Prison Grey) is the perfect amount to make this perfect scarf, shawl, neckerchief…whatever!  We added the stripes by making roughly 42 yard mini skeins of some of Sweet Georgia’s standard colors.  Pink = Orchic, Orange = Dutch, White = Birch, Yellow = Saffron, Blue = Summer Skin, Green = Lawn.
.
So now…where to put the stripes?  We decided to write a little quiz.  We’ve all taken them.  Work the quiz, add up your score and use our suggested stripe patterns, or just stripe it wherever you wish!
.
Find the pattern here on Ravelry, you can keep a copy in your Rav library. Or download from our website directly by clicking this link.  Different Stripes Pattern

Hope you enjoy!

Shop Hop 2014 – Day 1

Thursday, April 10th, 2014

The theme for the yarn shop hop this year is Local Color!  Our local color?  The historic Minnesota State Prison.  The first Federal prison in the state of MN.  Governor Alexander Ramsey, in 1853 said “there should be proper and safe places of confinement” for prisoners in the new territory.  Stillwater was the place for prisoners in 1853!   Read all about the history here.
.
We dressed the tree up as a convict.
.
.

So, we thought maybe we’d find a few more convicts:)
